Acceleration

Checked
In one sentence
Acceleration decides how quickly a player reaches his top speed. It never changes the top speed itself.

Who does this affect?

Every player, whether you or the CPU controls him
90
Build target
From 60 to 89 each point saves about 0.03 s on the way to top speed. From 90 it saves about 0.01 s.

How it works

Every sprint has three phases: a hard push below 15 km/h, a smaller one up to 22.5 km/h, and a slow climb from there to top speed. Acceleration scales all three. Braking changes by only ±5 % and turning is not affected.

What a point buys

40 → 59−0.008 s to top speed
60 → 89−0.030 s
90 → 120−0.010 s

Booster points: Boosters count, but each point adds only about 0.02 m over a 3-second sprint.

Common questions

Does Acceleration make turns quicker?
Short answerNo
Acceleration does not change how fast a player rotates: the turning rate is a fixed value that is the same for every player. When you turn with the ball, the rhythm of the touches comes from Tight Possession, not Acceleration. Acceleration only changes how quickly a player builds speed again after any change of direction (and braking by at most about 5 %).
Does Acceleration help a dribbler pull away?
Short answerYes
With the ball, acceleration blends Acceleration and Dribbling.

The maths

DetailSpeed and Acceleration do not mix: one sets the ceiling, the other how fast you get there. With both equal, the 3-second distance is 19.7 m at 80, 20.4 m at 90 and 20.7 m at 99.
DetailWith the ball, acceleration uses √(Acceleration score × Dribbling score). A CPU player making certain runs uses the average of Acceleration and the matching Awareness stat.
ConditionAcceleration Burst adds 2.5 % acceleration, only on its sharp touches with the ball below 20 km/h.
LimitTiredness: below 70 % stamina left Acceleration shrinks, down to ×0.90 at 10 % left.
