Attacking Surge

Stat boostChecked
In one sentence
+3 Speed and +3 Acceleration while he is in the opponent half and a teammate has the ball, gone the moment he gets the ball himself.

Who does this affect?

Both in principle (it raises his stats), but it only runs while he is off the ball, which is when the CPU usually moves him.

How it works

A conditional stat boost. It is on only while another player of his team holds the ball and he is in the opponent half, so it speeds up his runs off the ball. As soon as he becomes the ball holder it is removed, so it never helps him dribble. Like every stat boost it is cut at 99 before booster points: +3 Speed adds about 0.44 km/h of top speed for a 60 to 87 runner, about 0.18 km/h from 90 to 96, and nothing at 99.

When it applies

Without it

He runs with his normal Speed and Acceleration.

Which stats it reads

Speed raised by the skill
Full +3 up to 96 before booster points; nothing at 99. Worth about 0.44 km/h of top speed for a 60 to 87 runner, about 0.18 km/h from 90 up.
Acceleration raised by the skill
Full +3 up to 96; nothing at 99. Small: for a 60 to 89 player about 0.09 s less to reach top speed.

Common questions

Does it make him faster when dribbling in the attacking half?
Short answerNo
No. The boost switches off the moment he receives the ball.
Is it active in the attacking third only?
Short answerNo
No. Anywhere in the opponent half counts.
Does it help a 99-Speed player?
Short answerNo
No. At 99 Speed and Acceleration (before booster points) it adds nothing.
Does it work while the opponents have the ball?
Short answerNo
No. Only while a teammate has it.

Not yet confirmed

  • Whether the passer still counts as the ball holder while his pass is in flight (it decides whether the boost covers the first moments of a run after a pass to him).

The maths

ConditionOff when he has the ball himself, when the opponents have it, or when he is in his own half.
Bend+3 Speed is worth about 0.44 km/h for a 60 to 87 runner but only about 0.18 km/h from 90 up.
LimitCut at 99 before booster points: a 99 Speed / 99 Acceleration player gains nothing.
DetailIt adds up with other boosts (for example Super-sub), still capped at 99 together.
DetailNot used by this skill: Dribbling — the boost is off whenever he has the ball
