Shadow Hunt
Stat boostChecked
In one sentence
A centre-back, full-back or defensive midfielder gets +3 Speed and +3 Acceleration while chasing back on an opponent's pass played behind him.
Who does this affect?
Both: it is a stat boost, so it helps when you run him back yourself and when the CPU does.
How it works
Shadow Hunt is a conditional stat boost. When he plays in a CB, LB, RB or DMF slot, an opponent's pass is travelling (nobody has the ball), it is heading behind him and he is running back toward his own goal, he gets +3 Speed and +3 Acceleration. The boost stops as soon as anyone controls the ball. Like all stat boosts it is added before the 99 limit.
When it applies
- His slot in the formation is CB, LB, RB or DMF.
- The opponents are in possession and the ball is loose — a pass on its way, no one holding it.
- The ball is heading to a point behind him (closer to his own goal than he is).
- He is moving within 90° of straight back toward his own goal; when almost standing (below 2.5 km/h) the direction he faces counts instead.
- Ball in play.
Without it
Normal Speed and Acceleration on the same recovery run.
Which stats it reads
Speed raised by the skill
+3, capped at 99 before boosters. Worth about +0.44 km/h top speed between 60 and 87, about +0.18 km/h from 90 to 96, less at 97–98 and nothing at 99. Below 57 only about +0.08 km/h.
Acceleration raised by the skill
+3 with the same 99 limit. Helps the first steps of the turn-and-run; the acceleration curve also bends at 60 and 90, so it is worth most between 60 and 89.

Common questions
Does Shadow Hunt work for any defender, e.g. a centre-back used at CMF?
Short answerNo
The slot he plays in must be CB, LB, RB or DMF; his natural position does not count.
Does it stay on after he intercepts or the opponent controls the pass?
Short answerNo
It needs a loose ball; it ends the moment anyone controls it.
Is +3 Speed worth much on a 95 Speed defender?
Short answerPartly
Only about +0.18 km/h; it is worth most between 60 and 87.
Not yet confirmed
- That the point 'behind him' is the pass's target (it is the match's current ball target point).
The maths
ConditionOnly for the CB, LB, RB and DMF slots. A centre-back used at CMF gets nothing.
ConditionOnly while the opponent's pass is still travelling toward a point behind him, and only while he runs back.
BendSpeed and Acceleration bend at 60 and 90, so +3 is worth about 2.4 times more at 60–89 than at 90+.
LimitAdded before the 99 limit: partial at 97–98, nothing at 99.
