Through Passing

Better actionChecked
In one sentence
His through balls (ground and lofted) are aimed as if his Low Pass or Lofted Pass were 5 higher, and that +5 still counts at 99 and on top of booster points.

Who does this affect?

Both: the +5 sits in the kick-accuracy code that runs for your passes and the CPU's alike.

How it works

On every through ball the accuracy stat gets +5: Low Pass for a ground through ball, Lofted Pass for a lofted one. The +5 lives only inside the kick and never shows on his card. It is added after booster points and is not capped, so it still helps a 99 or boosted passer, though the gain there is small. It does not add to other +5 skills, and Phenomenal Pass or a Visionary Pass bonus (+6) replaces it. It does not make through balls faster or kick them sooner.

When it applies

Without it

The through ball is aimed with his plain Low Pass or Lofted Pass.

Which stats it reads

Low Pass sets how strong
Ground through balls only. Worth most for a 60 to 85 passer: about 0.2 to 0.6 degrees less average miss on a hard (70 km/h) through ball. From 90 up it still counts but is worth about 0.05 degrees.
Lofted Pass sets how strong
Lofted through balls only; same pattern as Low Pass.
Weak Foot Accuracy sets how strong
On his weaker foot the game takes 15, 11, 7 or 3 points off (weak-foot level 1 to 4) after the +5, so the +5 only softens that loss.

Common questions

Is Through Passing wasted on a 99 Low Pass player?
Short answerPartly
Not cut off: the +5 still applies at 99 and with booster points, but by then the error is already small, so the gain is tiny (about 0.04 degrees on a hard pass).
Does it raise Low Pass or Lofted Pass on the card?
Short answerNo
No. Only through balls get the +5, and only inside the accuracy calculation.
Does it make through balls faster or kicked sooner?
Short answerNo
No. No speed or timing code reads the skill, and the kick-timing use of Low Pass reads it without the +5.
Does Kicking Power matter for through balls?
Short answerNo
No. Kicking Power does not set normal pass speed or accuracy.
Does it stack with Pinpoint Crossing or Visionary Pass?
Short answerNo
No. The game uses the single biggest bonus: +7, else +6, else +5.

Not yet confirmed

  • The skill also switches on extra checks of lead points in the code that chooses where a through ball goes; players without it can get the same checks in some situations, and the effect on the pitch was not measured.

The maths

DetailGround through balls use Low Pass, lofted through balls use Lofted Pass; both get +5.
DetailThe +5 is not a stat boost: it never shows on the card and does not help normal passes.
LimitNo cap: the +5 still works at 99 and on top of booster points.
DetailDoes not add to Pinpoint Crossing or other +5 skills; Phenomenal Pass or a Visionary Pass bonus (+6) replaces it.
BendThe +5 is worth most between 60 and 85, where accuracy rises fastest with the stat.
DetailNot used by this skill: Kicking Power — not read; it does not set through-ball speed
