Rising Shot

New moveChecked
In one sentence
A clean Stunning Shot at 65–95 % power with his stronger foot becomes a rising shot, aimed as if Finishing were 5 higher. How the ball then flies differently could not be traced in the code.

Who does this affect?

Both: the shot type is chosen the same way for the player you control and for CPU players. CPU players with the skill also take long shots more readily and choose a 70 % power bar from 24–33 m.

How it works

When the conditions are met, the game labels the shot as a rising shot and adds 5 to his Finishing inside the aiming calculation. The trigger needs a clean strike with the standard instep shooting kick, his stronger foot and a power bar from 65 % up to (not including) 95 %. The rising label is passed on with the kick, but no code was found that reads it to change the ball's height, speed or spin, so a different flight could not be confirmed.

When it applies

Without it

The same input gives an ordinary Stunning Shot with plain Finishing.

Which stats it reads

Finishing raised by the skill
Rising shots aim as if Finishing were 5 higher. Biggest effect from 60 to 85, about half from 90 up; not wasted at 99 because the +5 is added inside the shot after the 99 cap.
Weak Foot Accuracy decides if it happens
With the weaker foot the rising shot only happens at the top Weak Foot Accuracy level.

In numbers

Average miss on a rising shotDegrees off target at 80 % power, strong foot, no pressure (ordinary shot error model). Blue: with the skill (Finishing + 5). Orange: the same shot without it.

Common questions

Does Rising Shot need high Kicking Power?
Short answerNo
The trigger reads the power bar, the kick, the contact, the foot and the skill only.
Does it work at full power?
Short answerNo
At 95 % power or more the shot stays an ordinary Stunning Shot.
Does it work with the weak foot?
Short answerPartly
Only with Weak Foot Accuracy at its top level.
Does the ball rise more in flight?
Short answerPartly
The shot is labelled as a rising shot, but the launch, spin and speed code never reads that label, so a different flight could not be confirmed.

Not yet confirmed

  • How the rising ball flies: the label is handed on with the kick, but nothing in the ball's launch, spin or speed reads it. One check on the shooter's follow-through reads it; what that check does is unclear.
  • Which contact types count as a clean strike has not been identified.

The maths

ConditionPower window 65 % to just under 95 %; at 95 % or more it is an ordinary Stunning Shot.
DetailBetween 50 % and 65 % the same kick can become a Knuckle Shot instead (if he has that skill and the ball is almost still).
DetailOne +5 per shot: it does not stack with other +5 shot skills; Phenomenal Finishing's +7 replaces it.
DetailNot used by this skill: Kicking Power — not part of the trigger; shot speed comes from Kicking Power and the power bar exactly as for any shot.
