First-time Shot
Better actionChecked
In one sentence
On first-time shots with the foot, the speed of the arriving ball counts 10 % less in the accuracy and mishit penalties for fast balls. No Finishing bonus and no new animation.
Who does this affect?
Both: it runs in the shot code for the player you control and for CPU players. CPU players with the skill also take first-time shots from crosses more readily.
How it works
When a player shoots first time, the game punishes him for the speed of the arriving ball in three places: a first-time accuracy loss, an incoming-ball accuracy term and one mishit chance. With the skill the ball's speed relative to him is multiplied by 0.9 before each of them, so a 50 km/h pass is treated like 45 km/h. On slow balls there is no penalty to reduce, so the skill only pays off on fast passes and crosses.
When it applies
- First-time shot with the foot. Headers are excluded.
- Only matters when the ball arrives fast enough to cause a penalty: the first-time loss works between about 15–34 km/h and 50–69 km/h depending on Finishing; the incoming-ball term starts at 10 km/h.
Without it
The full speed of the arriving ball is used in all three penalties.
Which stats it reads
Finishing sets how strong
Higher Finishing already lets him handle faster balls (the first-time penalty starts about 15 km/h later at 99 than at 40). The skill moves these limits up by another 11 %, about 2–4 km/h.

Common questions
Does First-time Shot add Finishing?
Short answerNo
The Finishing bonus code never checks this skill; it reduces the fast-ball penalty instead.
Does it help first-time headers?
Short answerNo
All three places skip headers before the cut is applied.
Does it matter on a slow pass?
Short answerNo
The penalties only start from about 10–15 km/h of relative ball speed upward, so there is nothing to reduce on a slow ball.
Not yet confirmed
- Which of the two speed limits is where the first-time loss begins and which is where it is full was not settled; the chart assumes the lower one is the start.
- The size of the gain in degrees of accuracy depends on ball speed and angle and was not charted.
The maths
DetailNo effect on slow balls: below the starting speed there is no penalty to reduce.
DetailNo Finishing points and no new animation: it only softens the fast-ball penalty.
DetailThe same code gives One-touch Pass the same 10 % cut on first-time passes.
DetailNot used by this skill: Weak Foot Accuracy — the weak-foot penalty is unchanged.; Heading — first-time headers do not use the skill.
