Long Throw

Better actionChecked
In one sentence
Throw-ins with more than 60 % power go up to 32 m instead of 25 m and fly faster (up to 55 km/h instead of about 49). No stat changes this.

Who does this affect?

Both: distance and speed apply to every throw-in he takes, by you or the CPU. The extra long-throw decisions are CPU-only.

How it works

Long Throw only changes throw-in numbers. Up to 60 % of the power gauge a throw is identical with or without the skill (5 to 15 m). Above that the distance climbs to 32 m at full power instead of 25 m. A throw aimed at a teammate may land up to 37 m away instead of 30 m, and the game looks for receivers up to 42 m away instead of 35 m. Throws longer than 12 m also travel faster, up to 55 km/h instead of about 49 km/h from 20 m on. No throw-in code reads any stat of the thrower.

When it applies

Without it

The same throw tops out at 25 m at full power, aimed throws are cut at 30 m, the receiver search stops at 35 m, and long throws travel at about 49 km/h.

Which stats it reads

Receiver's Jump, Heading, Physical Contact and Height (CPU thrower only) decides if it happens
A CPU thrower with the skill aims a long throw at a teammate 25 to 45.5 m away whose Jump, Heading and Physical Contact (each counted from 70 to 90) and height (175 to 190 cm) average at least 0.3 of the way up.

Common questions

Does Long Throw depend on Kicking Power, Physical Contact or any other stat?
Short answerNo
No. No throw-in code reads a thrower stat; only the skill and the gauge set distance and speed.
Does it make every throw-in longer?
Short answerPartly
Only throws with more than 60 % of the gauge get longer.
Does the CPU take long throws more often with the skill?
Short answerYes
Yes. A CPU thrower with the skill looks for the long throw straight away instead of after about 3 s.

Not yet confirmed

  • Whether throw-ins also pass through the shared kick-accuracy code (it would then use Lofted Pass for their accuracy) was not confirmed.
  • The final flight time can be adjusted afterwards for a running receiver; only the planned speed is shown.

The maths

StepGauge 70 %: about 19 m vs 17.5 m. 80 %: 23.5 m vs 20 m. 90 %: 27.8 m vs 22.5 m. Full: 32 m vs 25 m.
ConditionUp to 60 % gauge the throw is the same with or without the skill.
BendSpeed: same up to 12 m, then up to 55 km/h vs about 49 km/h from 20 m.
DetailNo stat matters: distance and speed come only from the gauge, the length of the throw and the skill.
DetailCPU only: a CPU thrower with the skill tries a long throw at once instead of waiting about 3 s, and looks for a tall, strong header target 25 to 45.5 m away.
DetailNot used by this skill: Kicking Power, Lofted Pass, Physical Contact and every other stat of the thrower — not read by any throw-in code
