GK Low Punt

MixedChecked
In one sentence
Gives the keeper a low, flat punt. With the skill his normal punt is always this low punt; the high punt is not affected.

Who does this affect?

Both: your own punts become low punts, and a CPU-controlled keeper (opponent or your side when the CPU runs it) chooses low punts in the situations below.

How it works

When a keeper punts the ball out of his hands, a keeper without the skill plays a medium-height punt. With GK Low Punt the same punt is replaced by a much flatter one, so you can no longer play the medium-height punt with him. Before a low punt the game checks whether the path to the target is open and may switch to another teammate or cut the punt to 80 % of its length. A CPU-controlled keeper with the skill uses the low punt for teammates who are calling for the ball and for target forwards shorter than 180 cm.

When it applies

Without it

His punts (other than the high punt) use the normal medium-height arc, and a CPU keeper never chooses a low punt.

Which stats it reads

Height (of the target forward) decides if it happens
CPU-controlled keepers only: they pick the low punt for a target forward under 180 cm and a high punt for 180 cm or taller.

Common questions

Can a keeper without the skill play a low punt?
Short answerNo
The low punt type is only chosen when the keeper has GK Low Punt, both for your punts and the CPU's.
Does GK Low Punt add accuracy?
Short answerPartly
There is no accuracy bonus; the low punt flies flatter and the game checks the path to the target before kicking it.
Can I still play the normal medium-height punt with this keeper?
Short answerNo
With the skill the normal punt is always replaced by the low punt; only the high punt stays available.
Does Kicking Power make punts longer?
Short answerNo
No punt code reads Kicking Power; the length comes from where the punt is aimed.

Not yet confirmed

  • Which button gives the high punt and which the normal punt was not traced in the code. The game's control list has 'Punting' and 'High Punt Kick' as two separate commands.
  • What the arc setting means exactly (very likely the height of the flight in metres).
  • What the path check before a low punt tests exactly.
  • Whether Lofted Pass affects the accuracy of punts.
  • A punt kicked with no power on the bar follows the CPU rules instead (then GK High Punt, not GK Low Punt, decides its type); whether your own punts can take this path was not confirmed.

The maths

ConditionOnly for punts out of the keeper's hands (not goal kicks or free kicks).
DetailWith the skill the medium-height punt is gone: every punt that is not a high punt comes out as the low punt.
DetailThe high punt (High Punt Kick) is a separate command that every keeper has; GK Low Punt does not change it.
DetailBefore a low punt the game checks the path to the target. If it does not look safe, it may go to another nearby teammate or be shortened to 80 % of its length.
DetailNo stat is read by the skill. It changes the type of punt, not its power.
DetailNot used by this skill: Kicking Power — punt length comes from where the punt is aimed, never from Kicking Power; Lofted Pass — not read by the skill (whether it affects punt accuracy at all is not confirmed)
