GK High Punt
Better actionChecked
In one sentence
Long high punts fly about 60 m instead of 50 m. Every keeper can already play the high punt; the skill makes the long ones longer.
Who does this affect?
Both: the 60 m length applies to your high punts and the CPU's; the choice of the high punt as the normal punt is for CPU-controlled keepers only.
How it works
The high punt is its own command (the game's control list calls it 'High Punt Kick') and every keeper has it. When a high punt is aimed 33 m or further away, or kicked with a full power bar, the game sets its length to a fixed value: about 60 m with GK High Punt and about 50 m without. Shorter high punts with a part-filled bar are not changed. A CPU-controlled keeper with the skill also uses the high punt as his normal punt.
When it applies
- The keeper punts out of his hands with the high punt (High Punt Kick).
- The punt is aimed at least 33 m away, or the power bar is full: the landing point is moved straight up or down the pitch so the punt is about 60 m long with the skill (about 50 m without). A long high punt aimed at 45 m therefore flies about 60 m, and one aimed at 70 m is brought back to about 60 m.
- Shorter high punts with a part-filled power bar keep their aimed length, with or without the skill.
- CPU keeper: when the CPU has not picked a low or high punt for a special reason, its punt is a high punt with the skill and a normal medium punt without it.
Without it
The high punt still exists for every keeper (and the CPU uses it for tall target forwards), but long ones land at about 50 m, and the CPU's normal punt is the medium-height punt.
Common questions
Does GK High Punt unlock the high punt?
Short answerNo
Every keeper can play the high punt with the High Punt Kick command; the skill only makes long ones go about 60 m instead of about 50 m.
Does Kicking Power make the high punt go further?
Short answerNo
The long high punt's length is fixed by the skill (about 60 m) or the default (about 50 m); Kicking Power is not read.
Does it make every punt longer?
Short answerNo
Only high punts aimed 33 m or more, or kicked at full power. Other punts are unchanged.
Not yet confirmed
- Which button plays the high punt was not traced in the code. The game's control list has 'Punting' and 'High Punt Kick' as two separate commands, and the touch controls include a 'High Punt' button label.
- The exact arc height of the high punt (in the game's own units it rises from 5 to 16 with distance).
- Whether Lofted Pass affects the accuracy of punts.
- A punt kicked with no power on the bar follows the CPU rules (with GK High Punt it becomes a high punt); whether your own punts can take this path was not confirmed.
The maths
Step+10 m on long or full-power high punts: about 50 m becomes about 60 m.
ConditionOnly high punts that are aimed 33 m or further, or kicked with a full power bar.
DetailThe length is set, not added: a long high punt goes about 60 m whether you aimed it at 40 m or 70 m.
DetailLow punts, normal punts and short high punts are unchanged.
DetailNo stat is read by the skill.
DetailNot used by this skill: Kicking Power — the length of a long high punt is fixed (about 60 m or 50 m), whatever his Kicking Power; Lofted Pass — not read by the skill (whether it affects punt accuracy at all is not confirmed)
