High Line GK
GoalkeeperStill being reviewed
In one sentence
While his team has the ball, the keeper lines up straight out from the middle of his goal instead of towards the ball, more so the further up the pitch the ball is. Shot-stopping and coming-out rules are unchanged.
Who does this affect?
Only while the computer controls the keeper and his team has the ball. Found on: GK only. On cards: 1 keeper in the main style field of the mobile card data (3 in the newer card data). It is an attacking-list style, so a keeper can hold it together with Attacking GK, Defensive GK or Sweeper GK.
How it works
High Line GK is read in one place: the keeper's positioning while his own team has the ball. Normally he stands on the line from the centre of his goal towards the ball. With this style that direction is turned towards straight up the pitch, not at all while the ball is 15 m or more inside his own half, fully once the ball is about 42 m into the opponents' half (5 m short of their six-yard line). Standing at the same distance on a straighter line puts him more central and further from his goal line. His defensive keeper style still decides when he rushes out.
When it applies
- Only when he is in goal.
- Only while his team has the ball (the keeper's in-possession positioning).
Without it
A keeper without the style keeps facing the ball from his goal centre, so with the ball out wide he stands off-centre towards that side.
Common questions
Does High Line GK make him rush out more?
Short answerNo
Rushing out is decided by his defensive keeper style; this style is read only in in-possession positioning.
Does he move up with the defensive line?
Short answerPartly
He lines up straighter in front of goal when the ball is far up, which puts him further from his goal line, but no rule ties him to the defensive line.
The maths
ConditionOnly in goal and only in the in-possession keeper positioning (his team has the ball).
BendTurn amount = 1 − ramp(ball position, 15 m inside his own half → 42 m into the opponents' half).
DetailHis distance from the goal centre is set by the same code as for every keeper; the style only changes the direction.
DetailNot used by this style: No keeper stat is read by the style's check.; No stat is raised by the style.
