Extra Frontman

DefenceStill being reviewed
In one sentence
A centre-back the computer prefers as the defender who joins attacks: he gets +0.2 in that choice and skips the aerial filter other defenders must pass, and in one aerial-target choice his Heading + Jump + Height counts double.

Who does this affect?

Only while the computer controls the players involved (computer-run team-mates or opponents). Found on: Compatible position in the code: CB only. On cards: 512 centre-backs in the mobile card data.

How it works

When the team setting that lets a defender join the attack is on, the computer picks one defender at restarts (kept while the ball is in play) by an estimate of his jumping reach from Height and Jump; an Extra Frontman gets +0.2 on that estimate, wins ties within 0.05 by Heading, and in the fallback pick other defenders are only considered with Height 175 cm+, Jump 80+ or Heading 80+. When the computer's ball carrier looks for an aerial target, only players with Heading, Aerial Superiority, Phenomenal Finishing or Bullet Header skills — or an Extra Frontman — are scored, by Heading + Jump + Height, which is doubled for an Extra Frontman.

When it applies

Without it

A centre-back without the style competes on his reach estimate alone, must pass the Height/Jump/Heading filter in the fallback pick, and is only an aerial target if he has one of the four skills.

Which stats it reads

Height, Jump sets how strong
The defender-joins-attack pick ranks by a jumping-reach estimate built from Height (150–210 cm) and Jump (40–99); the style adds 0.2 to it.
Height, Jump, Heading decides if it happens
In the fallback pick a defender without the style needs Height 175 cm+, Jump 80+ or Heading 80+ (card values).
Heading, Jump, Height sets how strong
Aerial-target score = Heading + Jump + Height (card values), ×2 for an Extra Frontman.

Common questions

Does Extra Frontman make him jump higher or head better?
Short answerNo
No stat or header code reads the style; it changes who the computer picks.
Will he always go forward?
Short answerNo
Only when the team setting allowing a defender to join the attack is on, and he still competes on reach (+0.2).

The maths

ConditionOnly in a CB position.
StepDefender-joins-attack pick: reach estimate +0.2 for him; ties within 0.05 go to the higher Heading.
ConditionFallback pick: others need Height ≥ 175 cm or Jump ≥ 80 or Heading ≥ 80 (card values).
StepAerial-target score ×2 for him; other players qualify only with Heading, Aerial Superiority, Phenomenal Finishing or Bullet Header.
DetailThe picked defender's later movement is set by the team-shape code for that role (for example a longer area); the style does not change that code.
DetailThe style is also read in seven other positioning and aerial checks (set-piece and run code); their effect on the pitch was not traced.
DetailNot used by this style: Offensive Awareness and Finishing are not read by the style's checks.; No stat is raised by the style.
