All-action Defender

MidfieldStill being reviewed
In one sentence
Makes him eligible for two defending jobs that only this style (and the unreleased Press Back) can be given — the jobs the game's description calls running back to respond to the opponent's attack. No stat or stamina effect.

Who does this affect?

Only while the computer controls him (a computer-run team-mate or an opponent). Found on: Compatible positions in the code: DMF, CMF, LMF, RMF, AMF. No card in the card data we have carries it yet (the game marks it as released).

How it works

Two of the computer's defending job choices only consider players with All-action Defender or Press Back: an All-action Defender always passes the first check and passes the second when one of two position conditions holds, while Press Back passes only when he is in the opponents' half. The first job is only tried after a 2-second timer the code keeps. A further distance limit in a defending run check is shortened for him. What these jobs look like on the pitch was not traced beyond these checks, and nothing here changes stamina.

When it applies

Without it

A midfielder without the style fails both job checks (they return no for everyone else), so he is never given those two jobs.

Common questions

Does All-action Defender give extra stamina?
Short answerNo
The stamina and tiredness code never reads this style.
Will he track back more than other midfielders?
Short answerPartly
Only he (and Press Back) can be given two specific defending jobs; how often they fire in a match was not measured.

The maths

ConditionOnly at DMF, CMF, LMF, RMF or AMF.
ConditionFirst defending job: only All-action Defender (always) or Press Back (only when he stands in the opponents' half) pass; it is tried only after a 2 s timer.
ConditionSecond defending job: All-action Defender passes when a value the code checks is 45 or less, or when he is within 2 m sideways of a reference point; everyone else fails.
StepA distance limit in a defending run check is 20 − 6 × v m for him (10 − 3 × v in a second case), where v is a 0–1 factor the code computes; other players get the full 20 m (10 m). What the shorter limit changes was not traced.
DetailNot used by this style: Stamina: the style is not read by the stamina or tiredness code.; No stat is read by the style's checks, and none is raised.
